Tree BoomWhen is a good time to prune a tree?

Fall and winter are the most opportune times to prune. However, pruning can be done year round if done properly. Most routine pruning is done to remove weak, diseased, or dead limbs. This allows growth to be maximized and wound closure is fastest if pruning takes place before the spring growth is flush.
